Board of Directors Network Board Development Group

The Board Development Group exists to help executive women accelerate their development as viable candidates to for-profit board of directors. It is comprised of women who have appropriate credentials and experience to be considered for such a role. Women with private board experience or those who want to re-engage in public board service should also consider applying for this program.

Criteria:
Consideration will be given to women with significant responsibility for an operation or function - P&L responsibility of $500 million or more is highly desirable; C-Suite or substantial division/operating or partnership experience; experience “in the boardroom” as an executive or advisor. Additionally, applicants will be interviewed to assess their understanding of the responsibilities and liabilities of a director; personal and behavioral attributes in areas such as thinking, decision-making, ability to communicate effectively, ability to influence, ability to work effectively with other directors and senior management, and capability to skillfully represent the organization with stakeholders.

How It Works:
Each year up to eight new members will be accepted through a selection process consisting of a written application and formal interview. All applicants who are interviewed will receive feedback and suggestions for further development regardless of whether they are accepted. The group will meet together six times in the program year for discussions on relevant topics with expert speakers and workshops to progress toward the goal of board candidacy.

The program starts each year in March and finishes January of the following year. Participants must be able to attend meetings and workshops in Atlanta, Georgia, in order to receive full benefit from this program.

This program also requires BDN General Membership to be eligible. Deadline for the 2012 class is February 24, 2012, but since the class will be filled on a first-come-first-served basis early submission is encouraged. The program fee imust be paid within 10 days of acceptance.

BDN Committee for the Board Development Group Program:
Constance Dierickx, Ph.D.- Consultant with extensive experience in helping boards, business owners and executives achieve dramatic growth in profit, people and professional reputation.

Sarah Ernst- Partner at Alston + Bird with significant experience advising public and private company boards on the complexities of corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, and securities offerings.

Henna Inam- CEO Executive Coach with global C-level experience managing P&L's of over $500MM and organizations of over 600 people in Fortune 100 companies. She serves on four non-profit boards and helps her C-suite clients accelerate results and become transformational leaders in their organizations.

Lynne Homrich- Former VP of Human Resources for The Home Depot where she was in charge of executive development and succession planning for entire enterprise. Lynne also managed on-boarding and assimilation for all CXO new hires and internal promotions.

Paul Lapides- Co-founder and Director of the Corporate Governance Center at the Coles College of Business, Kennesaw State University. Paul has 30 years of experience serving on the boards of public and private companies, and nonprofit boards, and is currently serving on four boards.

Rona Wells- Former P&L corporate executive with private board experience, as well as a background in governance issues and board dynamics. Rona was a leader in founding a national organization to advance women to the boardroom (InterOrganization Network).
