Becky Blalock
As Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer, Becky Blalock directs information technology strategy and operations across the 120,000 square miles and 9 subsidiaries of Southern Company. She leads more than 1,000 employees and her responsibilities encompass infrastructure, networks, desktops, applications, telephony and cyber security.
Since beginning her career at Georgia Power in 1978, Blalock has developed broad management skills in various positions. Prior to accepting her current position, she was Vice President of Georgia Power’s Community and Economic Development Department, responsible for marketing and positioning the state of Georgia in a global economy. Under her leadership the department was internationally recognized as one of the top economic development organizations in the world and she was named one of the “Top 10 Outstanding Young Leaders in Economic Development in America.” Throughout her career, Blalock has served in leadership positions in corporate communication, external affairs, the office of the CEO, accounting, finance, and customer service.
Blalock serves on several boards, including the Information Technology Association of the America’s CIO Council; the advisory board for TechLINKS magazine and the SunGard advisory board. She also serves as Chair of Leadership Atlanta, the Mercer University School of Business advisory board and the IT advisory board for Georgia State University. In addition, she serves as the vice chair of the Edison Electric Institute Technology Advisory Council.
A graduate of Leadership Atlanta and Leadership Georgia, she was named a Fellow of the International Women’s Forum Leadership Foundation in 2001. In addition, she penned a chapter in Inside the Minds: Creating a Strategic Technology Plan for Your Company and has written guest columns for CIO and TechLINKS magazines.
Blalock has received a host of honors, including being named among the Who's Who in Technology and one of Computerworld Magazine’s 2006 Premier 100 IT Leaders and the 2006 Power Woman by Atlanta Woman Magazine, the 2006 Shining Star Award recipient from the Atlanta Women’s Foundation, inducted into the 2005 Atlanta YWCA Academy of Women Achievers and named 2003 Georgia CIO of the Year, Global Category, by the Georgia CIO Leadership Association; one of the top 50 IT leaders in utilities worldwide by RaderEnergy; a “2003 Diva” by Business to Business Magazine; and one of the women “Making a Mark on Atlanta” by Atlanta magazine. She successfully completed the Program for Management Development at Harvard University in 1994. She holds a master’s degree with honors in business administration from Mercer University and an undergraduate degree in business administration from State University of West Georgia. She lives in Marietta with her husband, Jim, and daughter, Alexandria.
